Catriona - the deafening silence you are hearing is the collective
lack of any good response other than to pick your price, get the
best $ you can, and move on. If whatever price you negotiate still
seems unfair, don't make the sale. If you make the sale don't look
back at whatever potential abuse may occur.
Do recognize that if you give up perpetual use you will not be able
to promise any other potential buyer any sort of exclusivity. e.g.
If you allow the first buyer perpetual use and later a second buyer
wants assurance that the photo is not appearing in a competing
product you will not be able to offer any assurances. Realistically
this does not happen that often but I would be especially protective
of my very best images.
