Re: recommend a chain saw?

Something to remember about electric chain saws: Oddly, the chaps that will stop a gas-powered chain saw cold won't necessarily protect you against an electric saw. Although they seem (and usually are) much less powerful, the electrics have tremedous torque at stall and can keep going despite the fibers that are supposed to jam the chain.

Nan,

ancy said it well when she said "fatigue is dangerous". Most chain saw
ccidents happen when you want to cut "just one more limb and then I'll
uit". You don't realize you're tired, but you are, and muscle fatigue quietly
sets in and sabotages you.

efore you get one, I suggest you talk to several people in your area who
ctually use them frequently. These can be dangerous pieces of equipment in
nexperienced hands. You may decide it's better to hire one of your local
xperts for a few hours once or twice a year to do your heavier work and
eep doing the light work yourself with a handsaw. This is what I do, but I
nly saw for a short time, take a break and do some other kind of work using
different muscle set, then come back to the sawing -- alternating like
his keeps me going much, much longer.

f you do decide to get one, don't forget the goggles, very sturdy shoes,
nd ear protectors. Since you are inexperienced, you may also want to
urchase special chaps to protect your legs. They are available wherever Stihl
roducts are sold.
