Re: recommend a chain saw?
Nan,
Nancy said it well when she said "fatigue is dangerous". Most chain saw
accidents happen when you want to cut "just one more limb and then I'll
quit". You don't realize you're tired, but you are, and muscle fatigue quietly
sets in and sabotages you.
Before you get one, I suggest you talk to several people in your area who
actually use them frequently. These can be dangerous pieces of equipment in
inexperienced hands. You may decide it's better to hire one of your local
experts for a few hours once or twice a year to do your heavier work and
keep doing the light work yourself with a handsaw. This is what I do, but I
only saw for a short time, take a break and do some other kind of work using
a different muscle set, then come back to the sawing -- alternating like
this keeps me going much, much longer.
If you do decide to get one, don't forget the goggles, very sturdy shoes,
and ear protectors. Since you are inexperienced, you may also want to
purchase special chaps to protect your legs. They are available wherever Stihl
products are sold.
