Re: Exterior Grow Lights

Hi, Phyllis,

Can't say that I've done exactly what you've got in mind, but it certainly does make considerable sense. I add lights over certain plants in my greenhouse, to increase the length of day during winter months. This is proven to aid in rooting, etc. & often it doesn't take a great deal of extra light to make a difference.
At any rate, it would make a great case study, 'eh?
By the way, not sure if you ever do any book reviews, but I've a new book coming out 2/17/15, and if interested, I could email you an e-copy of it.

>Have any of you ever used grow lights in the landscape for sun-challenged areas?
>I have a design challenge to create a garden in a focal area of a contemporary-style home that is a 12âx6â area surrounded on three sides by large windows of the home and a deck on the fourth side. Its a spot that is visible from all sides and viewed at a distance from some areas inside the home, but close up at lower level windows.
>In effect its a window-well area that will receive about two hours of midday (East-West orientation)sun. Iâm considering mosses, ferns and other deep shade plants for sure, but wondered if I could enhance the growing possibilities by adding exterior grow lights.
>I look forward to hearing your thoughts and experiences.
