Re: [GWL]: Mantis??
This has been a bit of a puzzle to me as well. Food gardening has tended to
increase when economic times are poor, during the depression, the war and in
the early 70's when inflation was a problem. To put it another way, seed
companies have historically had an inverse relationship to the economy. The
difference today is a generation that has not grown up around gardeners and
are intimidated and need basic information. I find as I give talks I often
have a response of "grow it from seed, I'm not sure I could do that" to
which I always enjoy replying, of course you can, your ancestors have been
doing it for thousands of years. Of course today fewer people are setup to
do food gardening and it is a shame. More and more we learn of the complex
nutritive value of fresh fruits and vegetables. Those who grow some of their
own have fresh, organic, produce from gourmet varieties, and fresh cut herbs
and flowers.
