getting started taking photos

Does anyone know of a good resource for people who want to start taking
pictures to go with articles?  I'm starting w/ my digital camera because I
still have baby pictures of my 3 year old to develop. (g)

I've only taken casual shots of things but I thought it might be fun to
start dabbling in photography.
