In my area of rural Pennsylvania, the minimum legal
rural residential lot size is two acres. When the farmer sells his farm to the
developer, the land is usually pasture or farm field. This relatively level area
is turned into lawn as soon as the house is built. The only space not put to
lawn is the driveway and the deck out back. If there is by any chance a bit
of woodlot or hedgerow it is soon "cleaned" using glyphosate and/or goats.
