I use Hortus Third. But....the bulk of what I do involves vegetables and
heirlooms, where the names are well established. I also write about new
introductions, and the propagators usually supply the botanical pedigrees.
For the rest of my writing, Hortus Third seems to be sufficient.
Like others who have commented about editors stripping away scientific
names, I have had that happen. However, I provide as much information to an
editor as I can. It's their call if they dumb down the article, not mine.
