Great story. But I'm confused. On page 25 of the article, you say that G. andrewsii "prefers consistent moisture but will do satisfactorily with average moisture if mulched. A site with half-shade or high, open shade is best." But on the next page the caption says that this plant "thrives in deep shade and arid soil." Is this an editing mistake? A difference of opinion?
This is important to me because I'm always on the lookout for plants that will do okay in dry, intense shade.

I have been shopping around an article on Gentiana for the past four years. The summer and fall blooming species and hybrids are fascinating no end to me, but could not get anyone else interested until now. The American Gardener published my article - and a couple of my slides - in the current issue.
In the past, I always got the impression that no one had seen a previous article on the subject, so they did not want to pick up on an unknown. Nice to see a magazine stretch a bit. You may get the impression that I am pleased.
