I know there are more than this, but the ones I can think of at the moment are the "Dream" series bred by Jerry Twomey.

The Dream series are oustanding. And though they are all good, the orange is spectacular, probably the best low garden rose I've ever seen.

Other roses I have that are trouble free are the Flower Carpet and Meideland and especially Carefree Wonder. The latter I've grown for at least ten years with nary a spot of black, and it is truly everblooming. I understand there is a new one in the series, but I haven't seen it.

Roses I find worth keeping, even though they need a little help from a fungicide, and David Austin's 'Heritage' (beautiful form and heavenly scent) and 'Solitude', which always draws attention from visitors. (The more subtle 'Heritage' I have to call their attention to.)

Speaking of fungicides. I judge gardens for a regional contest, and two or three years ago I saw a rose garden. An 85 year old man whose wife had died a few years before decided to start growing roses for a hobby. He had over 600 in his typical suburban yard. And in July of one of the hottest, most humid summers we had ever had there was not a leaf spot to be seen. I asked him what he used and he told me Immunox, a fairly new product at the time. I got some and tried it and I must say that for black spot it is head and shoulders over anything I've ever used before. I've also recommended it in my column and gotten similar feedback from readers. If you grow roses that are less than trouble free, you must try Immunox.

BTW, for as long as I can remember, the Japanese beetles have appeared here between July 1st and 4th like clockwork. This year, for the first time, my first beetle showed up over a week ago and were in full force by early this week.
