Title: Re: [GWL] Easy rose trend That seems contrary, since the idea of deadheading most roses is to STIMULATE new shoots that will bloom some more. With most roses, letting hips set causes the plant to slow bloom production and put energy into developing the hips.

According to Bill Radner, Knock Out's creator, deadheading triggers a
hormone that curtails buds from sprouting on that particular cane. You can
thump the dead flower with your thumb to send the dried petals flying, if
you are a neatnik and must have perfection, but you should leave the hip
with stamens intact.
