Re: Travel Expenses

Hello Katy,
When I refer to my backyard, it is the limits I place on myself. One day's drive of 8 hours or so is about the same as a days labor in the nursery. Any time I am away from the nursery that is time away from my business and about as far away in time as I want to get. I do not want to have to hire someone to manage the nursery so I can stay on the road doing presentations. More importantly, that limit is also about the ends of what I can talk about with any authority. From there on out I am out of my hardiness zones and where my experience would apply. For those reasons I do not accept presentations west of the Rockies, far south, etc.

You must have a mighty large backyard - 8-10 hours one way is one heck of a drive, particularly when you are on your own.  snip... So for me its the total time that I charge for, not the actual fuel/wear and tear on the car etc.
