syngenta to buy fafard

Syngenta announced today that it has entered into an agreement to 
acquire Conrad Fafard, Inc. (Fafard), a leading North American 
producer of packaged growing media for the professional ornamental 
grower and consumer retail markets.

"With this acquisition, we will advance our strategy to expand our 
presence in the professional turf and ornamental market and gain a 
position in the fast-growing lawn and garden market," acccording to 
Rob Neill, vice president, Syngenta Professional Products. Fafard's 
strong brand will give Syngenta the opportunity to become the first 
full-range supplier of plant protection products, seeds and growing 
media to professional growers, he says.

"Syngenta and Fafard share a deep commitment to quality products and 
customer service," added Neill, "and we plan to retain the Fafard 
brand, people, headquarters and channels to market."
