Re: Taking books on tour
As a USA publisher I mail books all the time. The profit margin is slim so
for the cheapest rate I depend on media mail from my local post office. Once
I had a large box broken in transit and someone, I later learned, bought the
contents at a post office auction. These 50 new books (en-route to author
Nellie Neal before being made publicly available) turned up on Amazon.com
under "I have one to sell." A couple of others apparently got lost, but all
the other thousands of small and large book packages reached their
destinations safely. You can have the post office add a tracking sticker
with bar code for about 75 cents. I have been using the post office for book
mailings for over twenty years. I have a feeling that my Wayne, PA post
office branch is above average.
UPS is not a bad shipper either. Our hotel should have a staff person who
can box and ship your books that way, for a charge. For convenience in
fixing a one-time problem it might be worth it.
Tip: Have or bring an empty box for them to use.
Anyway, Nan, I am betting that you won't have any books left over. Be sure
to have enough copies with you!
