Re: Taking books on tour
Depending on WHEN you bought your airline ticket - you may not be charged
for extra luggage - if you bought early enough they have to honor the conditions
you bought your ticket under - so you may be 'grandfathered in' so to
speak. Check with your airline and read the fine print.
One warning: whenever I packed a bunch of magazines to give out as samples
at a show - I do a layer on the bottom of the bag several inches thick - same
probably as you'll do with your books -- this ensures your books stay nice and
flat and do not get too messed up, right? Well, it also makes you suspect #1
for security bag inspections because you have just created a solid barrier
for their scan machines. My bag gets pulled for inspection EVERY TIME -- your
carefully packed items will be turned over and then jammed back in whichever
way they damn well please - you'll also get a nice souvenir sticker or token
for your bag as well, and most aggravating is you have to wait extra long
for it to come off the carousel while everyone else is off to the hotel and
checked in, you get the pleasure of standing around and worrying - "is my bag
even on this flight?" Then afterwards, you are left wondering if you also need
to take inventory in case anything got "lost" during that haphazard
inspection. Isn't airline travel fun?

Hi all
I have a talk and book sale that I'll be doing on my way home, the day
after the end of the symposium in Portland. I am trying to figure out
what to do with books to sell. I think I can get my publisher to ship
books directly to the venue, but what do I do with leftovers when I
fly home? I'm flying southwest and as far as I know, they have yet to
institute a checked baggage charge, but even so, it will be really
challenging to travel with more than a book or two. Is there an
inexpensive way to ship books?
Thanks
Nan
