Re: Reliable lawn-care stats?

Judy, Jeff, et al,

Because of the many talks I have been giving this year on "Low Toxic Approaches to Home Landscapes," I have been in frequent contact with many of the representatives of the companies that make the organic and/or low toxic products. Each of them talk about huge increases in their sales. Additionally, when I spend time at the various garden centers in my area, there are triple the amount of products on the shelves (at least!) and the managers and owners of those businesses tell me those product sales are "way up." Much as I would like to take some credit for that, I don't. I just happen to be in the mix right now.

Maybe the way to get your "reliable statistics" is to go to the manufacturers of those organic/low toxic products and see what kind of info they will release to you. Organica this spring offered a rebate for a 4 step lawn program and Jonathan Green also a rebate program for the organic one (last year they only had it for the non-organic program which prompted a nasti-gram from me). Those are two you might want to start with.

I know it's kind of a back door approach, but it may yield some useful insights.
