I find cuttings is the way to go if one needs more plants late in the  
season - if one doesn't have any healthy plants oneself one can go and  
look pathetically at friends' good doers. Side shoots will root in a  
matter of days so long as they are kept good and damp without needing  
to be trimmed back at all
