Re: GWL - Plants and Cultural Conditions
take 2 aspirin and call me in the morning...
other SAR - systemic acquired resistance - stimulating materials are the
salicylates such as aspirin (acetyl salicylic acid) and wintergreen oil
which contains methyl salicylate. Maybe a couple wintergreen lifesavers
would do the trick.
We produce Insect Food, a feeding attractant for predators and offer it
with wintergreen oil. I found some papers that talk about salicylates
stimulating plants to resist powdery mildew.

Insect Food brings in local predators like lacewing, ladybugs and
syrphid flies. It is much cheaper than buying ladybugs, especially if
you have to buy them a plane ticket from the west coast. It can sit on
the shelf for a couple years. Just mix with enough water to make a thin
paste and flick onto plants with a paint brush. A few droplets widely
scattered will do the trick.
Samples available for trial...

I live in Chicago which can be a steam bath some summers, but my KO's don't
get black spot. Right now 3 (of 2 dozen or so different roses) are getting
it. Am going to look for some Messenger. Anyone know if it's still on the
market?
