That's why we were all searching for adjectives that would describe the experience of biting into a cucumber.  It would hardly do for Doreen to write about the joys of growing cucumbers and then describe the reward of biting into the "pretty much flavorless" result of all that labor.

BTW, I was fascinated to learn that water stress will make a cucumber taste bitter.  That's a valuable piece of information I'll tuck away for future use.
