Hi everyone:
I have been to a couple of the UNIFEM chapter meetings. It is a very
legitimate group. When you have a spare moment please give the time to read
this email and and then click on the website highlighted below. The
articles on the website make us realize how truly fortunate we are to be
living in such a safe country, and one that regards women equal to men.

Dear UNIFEM Friends,
Please note the following request from Gail Asper -
Mary Scott
I'm sure you have read about the situation of Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani,
the Iranian woman who is at risk of being stoned to death or executed for
her alleged crime of adultery. It seems that I receive petitions almost on
a weekly basis about women in other countries who are also about to be
stoned to death. I think it is time that we recognize that we ought not to
sit quietly by and allow 50% of the population in these countries to be
treated so horrifically. The website established by Heather Reisman, one of
the Museum's lead supporters, with her petition, is:
http://freesakineh.org/. I hope you will sign this petition and as
important, I am asking for your real help. Please send it to your network
and implore them to get involved. The goal of the petition is to have 1
million signatures, so every signature counts.
Any one who wants to contact Heather Reisman to raise any issue can do so
hreisman@indigo.ca.
I think it would be wonderful if the world actually rose up to express their
anger at this unacceptable treatment of women. A strong response to this
petition will also send a message to our government that we encourage them
to take action through the United Nations and potentially through boycotts
of all countries that continue to treat women as chattel.
Thank you for your anticipated support.
