I hate to use RoundUp as well, but I gave in and bought some the other
day. When I bought this house fifteen years ago the beds were planted
with nothing other than straight, green-leaved Aegopodium (bishop's
gout). I had most of it eradicated at one time, but there were
small clumps under the fence that sent runners. I didn't keep up
and now it's everywhere again.

I've been turning the soil in the beds and removing root pieces
and plants, but there are some Aegopodium growing through the bases
of suckering woody plants. I have no way to get them out other
than something like RoundUp.

I plan to paint the leaves rather than spray indiscriminately, so
I hope that helps mitigate any environmental damage.
