Re: japanese beetles...your help

Hi, Andrew!

Greetings from bucolic northwest Ct, zip 06804.

Jap beetle activity has been extremely low probably for all the reasons previously cited. I have a few lacey leaves on raspberry plants and have picked very few JBs from some roses early in the a.m. Nothing like what I've seen in the past, but my sightings have steadily decreased in the last 4 years. I think that's primarily because of my usage of beneficial nematodes in concert with this season's dry conditions. I applied the nematodes very conscientiously about 4 years ago to several wet areas of my lawn and gardens where I knew grubs to be hangin' out and generally at ground level in the areas where the JBs were having their orgies. If only I had Superman's x-ray vision to see below ground and microscopically inspect how their little colonies have fared in these dry conditions.

All my immediate neighbors (and most of the rest of them) treat their lawns chemically so no grubs survive in adjacent lawns. Ornamental plantings are few and far between, mostly "builder's bushes:" not much to draw JBs in. That could be part of it as well.

Following up on this thread I'd really appreciate any list members who
have had Japanese Beetle issues this summer who could tell me where they are
located, when they first spotted Japanese Beetles this year and when they
seemed to disappear. Your zip code would also be helpful.

Also if you think this years beetle occurrence seemed to be heavier or
  lighter than last year.

  Thanks for your help.
