If you have a heated greenhouse or a propagating frame but have never
attempted toroot rhododendron cuttings, you would be well advised to refer
to one of ...

teaming, now with nutrients,

Jeff, this is an informative article. Written in 1994 it seems to not having
taken into account the later findings about the results from willow water
rooted cuttings. I'm now wondering if there may be other plants which might
stimulate rooting of woody plants cuttings. Thanks.

Rose Marie,

I've found that almost any plant that roots easily and quickly can be a
good nurse cutting for other things. I have also experimented by planting a
few bean seeds in pots with hard to root cutting, and this too has sometimes
appeared to have been effective.
At the same time, I suspect there are some species that root easily that
are the opposite of symbiotic...(grass seeds & ?. Unfortunately no one has
done any extensive testing of this kind, so we don't have the data. Still,
I've seen enough positive from nurse crops of many sorts, to have new
respect for the idea of companion plantings.

Tom

Thanks Jeff the link is helpful. Doesn't address what to do if the cutting
doesn't root until late fall and if it can be kept indoors through the
winter. This is what I get for specializing in perennials...lol.
