Re: FW: The Coming Plague of Pears
My understanding of the problem of splitting in callery pears is due to
narrow and the very straight grain of the wood. I have heard unflattering
remarks from climbers who work on willow oak (I think) and find their chain
saws cut very slowly. because the grain is very twisted. Those trees become
enormous in the southern US, and when they decline seriously everyone groans.
I'll try to reach some very knowledgeable friends to find out what they know
about the apparent ease with which callery pears split.
