Re: gardening giggle
Agreed, Private individuals should be almost totally free to plant whatever
they wish on their own property. I personally suspect that very few
individuals would care to grow a tree solely in order to use its leaves in
dried arrangements. However, it seems that a density of specimens is
necessary is needed to have any species become invasive. I suspect that if
Norway Maple had not been almost the only street tree on the eastern
seaboard, that we would not have been screaming "it's invasive" in 1982.
Norway maple also does not seem to be able to get into healthy natural
forests. However the square footage of natural forests in the US is not huge
and we might want to not have several exotic species all barging in at once.
