Book Award

Well, I guess I should brag a little now that my book "Plants and Landscapes for Summer-Dry Climates of the San Francisco Bay Area" has won two awards. Garden Writers of America gave it an award for photography in the book category in this year's media awards, and now American Horticultural Society has given the it one of their 2005 AHS Book Awards.

Many of you will remember how proud I was when the book came out, now more than a year ago and I believe several of you ordered copies from the publisher for review, so maybe this is not really news, but it sure is nice to be recognized by the garden media at large. I don't believe the publisher, a local Water Utility, is doing any more complimentary copies and, in general, it is very hard to find because of the fact it is seen as a book of only local interest. But as AHS said in it's current May/June issue where the awards are announced:

<< The title ... gives the impression it is a regionally narrow in scope, the committee felt its content and presentation made it relevant to a much broader audience. "As an overall production, this book is spectacular," said (judge) Ray Rogers. Lucinda Mays (judge) said the book "is a wonderful example of how we can use what we know about gardening to protect and improve our environment. It is an excellent model for other regional publications." >>
