Re: Yard vs Garden


I commend you all to the OED's long and authoritative entry (which I will not spoil here--do your homework, now...). It is most fascinating, as are the references it cites.

Yard is also a verb (but not to be confused with our colleague's "yardening")and has several other meanings I've never encountered before. Word geeks rejoice!
