Re: Citrus Question

I grow both Meyer Lemon and Kaffir Lime in rather large container. We are at the 45 parallel. We bring them indoors when nights start dipping into the upper 30's. As several of you have noted scale is the big problem and spraying with horticultural oil, water and a little soap is pretty effective though you may have to repeat. I've also used gauze dipped in alcohol, some music and a glass of wine. it's sort of a meditative process and cleans them off slick as a whistle if the infestation isn't serious. If you see ants near your plants, beware, they're setting up a farming operation. Every few years root prune to reinvigorate the plant and keep the size manageable. The light situation in my house isn't great and winter skies are grey in Oregon. We fertilize with 1/2 strength fish emulsion, or liquid kelp and see they get an application of chelated iron. Even if they drop their leaves, they'll come back. The fragrance of citrus flowers can at times fill a house.
