Re: scale remedy

After many years, an Amaryllis that had been given to me by my (deceased)
father-in-law developed scale. It had sentimental value, so I was
motivated to save it, even though nothing I tried seemed to be a
permanent solution. One of my (very) old gardening books suggested
alcohol applied by Q-tip. I would have needed a lot of wine to make me
sit here long enough to cover every bug on every leaf. Instead, I tried
the alcohol wipes (swabs) that are used to clean/disinfect the skin. It
took multiple applications for a complete cure, but the Amaryllis has
been scale-free now for several years.
