The name game

I love taxonomic discussions! I think it keeps us all sharp, and I
always have fodder for my botanical nomenclature classes.

I agree with Peter that we shouldn't be hasty. I love telling the story
of Chrysanthemum. It took only 30 years to filter down from taxonomy to
the nursery level. The year that the Sunset Western Garden Book finally
changed the name to Dendranthema was the very year it got changed back
to Chrysanthemum.

The change of Chimicifuga was at least partly based on new DNA testing.
I wonder if this will this affect taxonomy more and more. Will we have
more splitters than lumpers? Or will it go the other way?
