That's what I was thinking. Sounds more like aphids, which come in quite a
range of colors. I've found black ones on indoor ivy plants. They love the
soft, succulent new growth.
Suzanne, if your reader doesn't want to go the chemical route, she can get
limited control by washing the affected parts of the plant with soapy water.
It'll have to be done several times, as new aphids will keep hatching.
