I sent this to Jeff offlist but it was bounced back as 
undeliverable... this is my second time trying to post it to the list!

What you need is TextSoap (http://www.unmarked.com/products.html). It 
can be configured to remove a wide variety of unwanted marks from 
webpages and costs only $20.

I've been using it for a couple of years on my Mac and find it invaluable.
