Re: query about 'first garden' stories?

Hi Sharon:
I started my first garden when my husband was transferred to
Newfoundland (Placentia, on the Avalon Peninsula). I ordered flower seeds
and sphagnum moss from Dominion Seed House, and started my plants in a spare
bedroom near the window. They all came up - bless their little hearts - and
then started toppling over. Two thirds died due to damping-off and the other
third died when I planted them outside, directly in the soil, ...er gravel.
(No good soil, no fertilizer, just lots of sandy type stuff with gravel in
it.)
But being stubborn, I haven't stopped trying to grow things since, and
fortunately now two thirds live.

Cheers
Carol
