Re: making pots from newspaper
Sharon,
I just attended an organic gardening class that had an easy way to make
newspaper pots...any size you want them, and a great way for kids. No need
to buy anything!
All you need is a glass jar and a strip of newspaper about two inches wider
than the jar and long enough to go around the jar a couple of times.
Wrap the newspaper strip around the jar (not too tight), one end
approximately level with the top of the jar...the other long enough to fold
over to the opposite edge of the bottom of the jar (in other words the same
length as the width of the jar). Keep folding the bottom edge until you have
covered the bottom of the jar with overlapping folds.
Scoot the newspaper down the jar about a half of an inch (that is why it
can't be tight) down towards the bottom of the jar. Now pinch around the
entire edge of the bottom of the jar. This makes the pot sturdy so it will
stand up and so it doesn't come unwound.
You can use any size jars, depending on the plants or seeds you are planting.
Have fun!
