Re: Garden Tour
Hello:
Might I suggest a Florida tour sometime in early spring (March-April) or
late fall (October November)?
Start in Miami with a quick trip to Key West, then to Fairchild Tropical
Gardens, then to David Fairchild's home called :"The Kampong" where
southeast Asian fruits are on display in a tiny garden in Coconut Grove
(incredible Cuban food in Coconut Grove and the family nightlife with the
shops and street painters is pretty interesting). While you're there visit
Viscaya -- an incredible house/garden in the same area. (When the mansion
was built he employed 1/3 of the entire workforce of soiuth Florida) The
gardens are a little tired bur the house is amazing (two sets of water
faucets in every bathtub one for fresh water (one for salt water.)
Then you can split either way if you go up the east cost you can visit
Butterfly World in Palm Beach (the largest butterfly house in America and
some nice gardens FABULOUS vine collection) and then to the Morokami
Japanese Garden, Palm Beach, and then why not visit the world famous
Breakers Hotel in Palm Beach for the their weekend brunch). McKee Gardens
just spent $6.5 million on the preservation of that old garden in Vero
Beach. Then to Bok Tower Gardens in Lake Wales Florida Then onto Orlando
for beautiful Leu Gardens just north of downtown.
If you take the western rout you can go to Naples then to Sanibel Captiva
Islands for a day or so (best shell collecting beach in North America),
then onto Edison/Ford home in Fort Meyers (great tropical trees and palms),
then to Ringling Fine Art Center and Garden and Selby Gardens, both in
Sarasota. End up then Orlando at Leu Gardens. Then to Bok Tower in Lake
Wales and Finally end up in the Animal Kingdom at Disney -- amazing
collection of tropical plants.
Hope this helps! Call me -- we are always glad to help set these sort of
things up with folks.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a really great Garden Tour of 4/5
days somewhere in the United States in 2003 for about 40 people ?
