Re: Garden Tour
Hi
In 2000 I took a wonderful 4 day garden tour of New England in early
June. We visited Salem and toured the Ropes Mansion Gardens, the gardens of
the Peabody Essex Museum, and the period gardens of the House of the Seven
Gables. Then on to Sturbridge, MA to tour the Old Sturbridge Village gardens
(samples or backdoor gardens, farm garden, kitchen garden, formal gardens,
etc. - it took a whole day) Be sure to plan dinner at the Salem Cross Inn
about 30 minutes away.
The next stop was the Green Animal Topiary Gardens in Rhode Island.
Followed by a tour of the several mansion gardens in Newport (Rough Point,
Chateau Sur Mer, etc.).
Then we travelled to Sandwich (Cape Cod) to tour Heritage Plantation
where the hundreds of rhododendrons were in bloom - it was fantastic.
This tour covered a lot of area, and there were other gardens we could
have visited but didn't have the time. Hope that gives you some ideas.
If you want to come to Atlantic Canada there's lots of gardens to tour
as well. Late June is the best time. Consider the exchange on your American
dollar ($1 U.S. = approximately $1.50 Canadian, an immediate 50% discount!)
In Nova Scotia you could see Annapolis Royal Historic Gardens, Grand Pre
Vineyard, and the gardens at Historic Grand Pre, the fantastic new Botanical
Gardens at Acadia University, the Halifax Public Gardens (acres of Victorian
gardens in the middle of the city), Tangled Garden in Wolfville, plus
others. If you're interested I can give you more info on Nova Scotia
gardens, plus New Brunswick.
Have fun!
