Dear Chris,
    Hie yourself to Charleston and plan to visit Middleton Plantation 
and Magnolia Gardens.  If you have any access to private gardens in the 
town, make use of them.  Call the Historic Charleston Foundation  at 
(803) 722-3405 to find out about the walking tours they sponsor of 
downtown Charleston's many historic places and gardens.  These take 
place from mid-March to mid-April.     A good reference book is The 
Traveler's Guide to American Gardens edited by Mary Helen Ray and Robert 
P. Nicholls.     Enjoy your trip.  You're going at a perfect time of year!
