Pile good stuff on top. Not only do you save your back--digging or
tilling--but you create a layer that will propagate beneficial soil
microbes. Within a season, they migrate down into the yucky stuff. I
usually dump 3 cu. feet of peat, one 40 lb sack of composted manure, two
wheelbarrows of compost and 80 lbs. of top soil into a pile. Mix well and
spread to create a 6 inch high bed--covers about 36 sq. ft.
