But what do you do when someone asks you to send clips? Black and white Xeroxes don't look so great, but color ones are really expensive.

I use plastic sheet protectors and binders for everything but books. This includes published photos. They work well for presentations, etc. (portfolio style), and keep things from getting banged up. They can be either filed or binderized.
