Re: future of garden magazines
There's another little bit that hasn't popped up yet.
Many gardeners who come into our nursery are working with information from
two sources- one is print (newspaper and magazine) and the other is web
sourced. The latter is the more common of the two. When I ask our customers,
they say they just do a quick search on whatever aspect of
gardening/horticulture that interests them at the moment. They get the
answer relatively quickly, they don't have to wade through a lot of other
material and the price is right.
Poor management decisions, misguided owners or out of touch editors
notwithstanding, the internet has had a significant impact on the decline of
magazines ( how many of you write regularly for websites?) and will continue
to do so.
As garden writers, I think we need to come to terms with this and adjust our
own self-marketing strategies. Even though we don't want to see print media
disappear.
