Jeff,  

You have indicated twice that you consider yourself a possible copyright
infringer by posting the link to the NYT article.  That can't possibly
be a copyright violation!  In fact, you'd be doing us a disservice not
to post links to relevant articles found elsewhere on the net.  After
all this is a discussion group amoung members with common interests.
That article in particular was of a fair amount of interest to list
members.

In my view the only meaningful copyright issue is this: Does posting an
entire article to this list (as Lon originally suggested but later
recanted) constitute a violation? The answer is perhaps unclear, though
there are bound to be differing views on this because it's unclear (to
me at least and probably to many others too) whether posting to a list
is considered by the courts to be a form of publishing.  But I am NOT a
lawyer, so take that with salt, if not with some tasty herbs.
