Fwd: Plant a Row for the Hungry


Hi all,
GWA members got this e-mail today, but there are some on this list who don't belong to that group. I hope you don't mind my forwarding this to the GWL since it is a worthy endeavor. I am in the process of setting up a Plant a Row campaign in my county here in downstate IL. Planting season is near, so it's a great time to do a PAR feature.

Dear GWA Member,

The Garden Writers Association Foundation is currently seeking to raise
awareness and funds for its hunger prevention program, Plant a Row for the
Hungry (PAR). As you know, PAR¹s mission is to increase the amount of fresh
garden vegetables donated to food banks, soup kitchens and service
organizations across America who are serving the 33 million people,
including 13 million children, who face hunger or the threat of hunger every
day.

We need your help! GWA members play a vital role in PAR¹s success by
utilizing their position with local newspapers, magazines and radio/TV
programs to encourage their readers/listeners to plant, harvest and donate
nutritious garden produce to food assistance programs in their communities.
Additionally, increased media exposure will help to raise much-needed
financial support. We would greatly appreciate your help in generating
media coverage for this important outreach program. Please contact us at
info@gwaa.org with your ideas and any need you have for specific program
information.

Also, if you know of a business who might be interested in learning more
about PAR and the benefits of becoming a valued program sponsor, send us
their name and address and we¹ll mail them a brochure.
