Re: Who's the audience

Title: Re: [GWL] Who's the audience
Seems like the important point is what they want to grow.  People who grow edibles, be it fruit or vegetables, almost have  to be ones who want TO garden.  The ones who want A garden would mostly be interested in ornamentals.  As someone who writes about fruit, my audience is usually a very enthusiastic one, which is why it's such a gratifying subject for me.

I often refer to my contention that there are two kinds of people: those
who want A garden and those who want TO garden. I have always written
primarily for the second group, and to the extent that I address the
first group of sorry slackards, it is only to try to convert them.

It seems to me that much garden writing, particularly in newspapers and
popular meda but sometimes too in garden magazines, is directed to the
first group, those who want a garden with minimal effort and knowledge,
those who consider gardening "work.". I am curious -- do others make this
distinction? And do you consciously speak to one group or another?
