Re: Getting in the mood


Yes, it is possible to be too close to the subject. And it sounds like you could be worried about what he and maybe other experts will think of the piece. Better to keep in mind who the article is being written for and focus on who the reader really is.

When I'm really stuck, I write...This is a story about... and just give a narrative with the facts. That gives me something to edit, rewrite and rework....you know what they say, you can't edit a blank page. Some people tell you to start anywhere in a story, but I can't do that. I have to start with the lead.

Writer's block - arrgh! I was wondering what tips all you experts have for those moments you deal with writer's block.

I'm currently working on an article on George Rasmussen, a man who should be known by more gardeners as a world class daylily and hosta hybridizer. The fact that he lives locally and has been a mentor to me for 10 years has my fingers in knots. Is it possible to know too much about your subject?
