I have had a real struggle to try to figure out all the hardware and  
software I'd need for a podcast program. Magazine articles said it  
was easy; don't believe that.   I'm almost there, but ran into  
another barrier (about the tenth) in trying to figure out how to use  
FTP file transfer programs.  Like many technical projects, once the  
fog is cleared it is a very easy process to maintain.  The Detroit  
Free Press just this morning had a feature on the local Detroit  
Podcasters Network, which I have joined.  They can't be too bad since  
their monthly meetings are held in a bar.  Since I didn't know any  
podcasters to call, I had to blunder through the process making all  
the dumb mistakes.  Having someone with some experience is very very  
helpful.  At the same time, there are significant differences in  
options for hardware and options for software, so the trick is to  
find someone using a system similar to your own.

I'm on my second set of microphones and my second set of software and  
I have not published my first podcast.  For the easiest to get  
started a Mac with the new versions of Garageband and ITunes are in  
fact simple.  These versions have specific features for podcasting,  
reducing the fog considerably.  If anyone on the list has any  
questions don't hesitate to contact me off list.  I've made enough  
mistakes to almost become an expert.
