There have been a number of threads on archiving photos on the GWL...most  of 
which I initiated...and to this date my library grows and grows and I still  
have to rely on my memory to find pics.  None of the software discussed was  
free but ranged from about $60 up.  If you can't find the threads doing a  
search let me know and I'll forward some of the info.  Picasa may prove to  be a 
little light weight as your archive and needs grow.

I think Picassa is great if you're  just going to take photos, do some very
basic lightening/darkening etc, and  crop them and save them.  It's the only
thing I use.
