This thread about Twitter should be sounding a clarion call of resistance to 
all of us who write. I fully agree that the web cannot be used in the same 
manner as print but it should not be the reason for us to lapse into 
mindless babble just to keep fresh content available for crawling little 
bots.

That doesn't mean that all churned out content is poorly done. Blogs, for 
example, require a fair bit of skill and craftsmanship. Most of us scope out 
the friendly competition and we're very well represented with some fine 
examples of writing and thinking. However, the vast majority of bloggers 
should be standing on a soap box in market square dodging rotten vegetables.

Twitter on the other hand represents, to me, the bottomless pit from whence 
the cries of the onlies echo.

Barbara suggests that it is "Interesting how much of a person's personality 
and true focus are revealed in 140 character blurts".  And I agree 100% with 
her. There are two points I offer for discussion.

The first is Twitter seems to be about the writer not the work, however 
brief. Maybe that's a good thing.

The second is the suggestion that brevity, clarity and purpose are the 
grounding points of twitter. We've gone from full blown books and features 
to 140 characters; from epic poetry to haiku, so to speak.

In that spirit I offer:

Twittering minds

that way, this way

resting from thought
