Re: Twitter
Although the majority of responses to this thread have been of the "I'm here on Twitter" sort, I've been surprised at the, how should I put it, anti-twitter posts? Twitter is a tool - use it or don't use it. Use it for record keeping, for connecting with people, for taking questions at talks (Yes, there are professional speakers who ask for questions via Twitter when speaking at large venues.) for creating a platform to attract publishers or just for entertainment. Or choose not to use it. Frankly, Twitter is nothing new... it has moved an old style of communication into the digital world, that's all. In times past is was the standard practice for people to gather in town on a certain night, or at church on Sunday, or in knitting groups or at the general store. Conversations might be brief: "How are you doing, Harold?" "Ok, I guess. Had to put a calf down last week." Brief exchanges (140 characters or less?) that let people know what's been going on. Similarly, people mi
ght talk about others in the same way. "Carol? Oh, I haven't seen her for awhile. Her mother is sick, don't you know."
If you think it's not useful, ignore it and go onto something else. Everything old is new again, however, and Twitter is just a 21st century back fence where relationships are cultivated and news is exchanged.
