Amy, I looked pretty heavily into app development last year including almost being part of a development team.  I did a great deal of market research into app development including garden apps from my reader surveys but my work was not restricted to gardening. 

Depending on what you need, I may be able to help steer you in the right direction. The only thing I tell folks who are doing apps is to make sure you are clear about the size and value of your intended market before you put any money on the table.  Have the biz numbers cold!  And if you're looking for a dedicated, custom app, have deeper pockets than you think you'll need ;-)
