Re: Question about Insurance

Sandie,

I organize a large garden tour here in Encinitas (next one is April 21 if anyone wants to come!) and we ALWAYS have insurance. I wouldn't do the event without it.

If the tour is an "official" MG tour, then there is no reason they shouldn't cover the tour - it is one of their functions and I can't imagine how they could justify denying coverage to one of their own events.

If the tour is not official MG business, then ask the MG society whether they would consider including the tour as a rider on their bigger policy - and have your organization can pay the difference.

If you have to find your own policy, you are looking for a "Special event" policy.

Such insurance should cover you, the organizers, volunteers, and homeowners. The bus company should name your organization as an "additional insured." I'd be surprised if the MG Society wouldn't want to be named as additional insured by both the bus company and your organization too. But if they ask that, it implies that they still consider the tour to be part of their function which would lead me back to asking them to provide the insurance.

If you want more information, contact me off-line.

Nan
